Writing Progress #1 - Discord Access Invites Sent!

Good morrow everyone!

You cannot imagine how many times I have written that phrase in the story so far... Manners is important! I wanted to change it up by adding "good e'en" but the editor nixed the idea immediately... psst it means "good evening," but yes it would be too much of a stretch. I also don't want to put everything into the glossary ^^;

Home Life Updates (feel free to skip the not-good)

So who is ready for the reasons RR has slowed...? sighs
We have had some bad luck with car accidents, mostly from strangers running red lights, almost being hit at 70 mph into driver side, AND a few days ago a hit and run in the parking lot :/ So we lost the car for a few weeks to get insurance deductible work repaired. Also our dogs were suffering from persistent eye infections and took different set of meds to clear it out. One had an eye procedure done a few days ago with the eye vet for a persistent corneal ulcer that refused to heal right, causing her constant pain. Pain meds and 3 eye drops now. Hopefully, we'll see better improvement in the next two weeks.

Writing on the story has been leading to some personal injuries. Yes, I have discovered typing can cause shoulder impingement syndrome... which is my educated guess based on my painful flexion and adduction and a few physical positive tests. It hurt to reach the house keys, put on socks, and sit with 4 days of solid pain. Now much improved after some temp computer ergo changes (I have a very tall chair atm). I have been advised by other devs and teammates to invest in pricey split keyboard and standing desk next ^^; eh... I will deal with the back pain for now.

Teammate Updates (also not-so-good)

One teammate dealing with a family member funeral, another taking care of sick partner and an emergency visit. A freelancer has gone "missing" but it looks like they have been swamped in 3-6 week projects with other commissioners so we'll see if I have to approach via official channels. Unusual circumstances and he felt bad for disappearing the first time...

RR Updates!

What have we accomplished? The outline took longer than expected (cause life delays) but it is finally complete! Flexible chart but here is the fun image with spoilers grayed out. In comparison... Mizuchi only had 4 columns (one per character).

Art

We are still trying to finalize that difficult first map! We did finish additional outfits for two characters, and are now working on the last side character sprite! They will appear around the halfway mark of the story ^_^

If you would like a head start on medieval fashion, here's a fun pair of videos by the awesome historian Dr. Eleanor Janega! Care to guess how many we have? ^^; Some are still missing though but it has some of the big known ones XD and we use it in a lot of side characters or the extra outfits!

Writing

I have "finished" chapter 2... because I keep tweaking it when "forgotten" ideas pop into mind. Chapter 2 is 'almost' doubled chapter 1 (Demo). I am halfway through chapter 3 now. Slowdown since the injury but I'm definitely chugging along. The hardest part is not going down rabbit holes to "confirm" or get exact details on things... but I hope for a big update next time on this! Also started adding "pets" into the story as 2 have been mentioned. There's still 3(?) missing pets from backers so be sure to let me know! Art will start once we get the last bit of sprites and map finished (:

Happy holidays!

We hope you all had an enjoyable and safe holiday break! Feel free to skip down to the Red Rebellion heading if you're uninterested in what else we were busy with ^^;

The continual curse of this year has not eased up in the last few months. My mold/termite bedroom ceiling, which we thought had survived the previous rain storm, did not survive the heavy rain last week... So my room is still inactive and insurance will not be pleased by the ongoing issues. Mold levels were tested to be 5x the acceptable limits >_<; *sighs*

Mizuchi News

The current team was busy working on Mizuchi's console release involving translations and a new trailer with edited music. We had a lot of translation issues with the Chinese localization agencies, who straight up plagiarized and lied about issues we didn't have, and they had the gall to ask for more money to fix the mistakes they put into the work. These are localization agencies that show up at various gaming conventions in Europe and Asia, and market themselves to publishers... they should be banned.

So pretty much it threw everything off track trying to fix it all on time. But of course, we ended up repeatedly missing the expected deadlines. Also, there were issues with porting Renpy 7 plugins, which shouldn't be a problem if your Renpy game is built in the newer version 8. We finally submitted it for console certifications about 3 weeks ago... sadly we're a bit burned out at this point from all the LQA/QA testing, and trying to fix our sleep schedules. 

I'm still waiting for the co-publisher to announce the new console release date. The physical Switch and PS4/5 versions (all 4 languages) will only be available on Amazon.jp, and Asian and Japanese retail stores. Otherwise, you can find it in the digital console stores. These are the All-Ages version (Steam without patch).

Soft Source will also be hosting a booth at the Taipei Game Show with Mizuchi as one of the big focuses!

Red Rebellion News

 My current work involves more RR research by finishing up a few more chapters about the period King and society. Finish the last bit of character notes. The game is now very complex trying to handle multiple characters and their backstories, so I'll also be learning how to use Scrivener so we don't forget any important historical details!

The programmer is now going to convert the RR demo to version 8. I have been mulling over one of your feedbacks about wanting more choices earlier on. After discussing with other devs and team members about "meaningful choices" and "false choices", we decided we would remake the beginning a little bit and tweak the game mechanics too. We'll be adding a map and Nalcyon is now busy brainstorming ideas on how it'll look. Wish her luck!

We also contacted our 3rd consultant, historian Claire to help with one of our character's backstories ^.~ Not hard to guess who! Claire runs Bustles and Broadswords - a podcast about women with swords throughout history with a specifically queer lens, created by @carmineclaire. Have a listen!

We also finished a few new BGs and looked up more references and designs for a few characters' outfits. Hope we have more lovely things to show next update!
